It was a time at a place, and Maui gave the dialogue the specifics of landscape, textures and smells, hot lava underfoot,
volcanoes over head. We responded to that nature and wanted to make art about how powerful and mysterious it was.
The Hawaiian spirit clung to every rock and outcrop, permeated each Ti plant, and voiced itself in stunningly beautiful poetic
songs of women and flowers and mist in waterfalls. It was the ambient culture that we walked into
and sucked up.

PUKA PUKA presents FAR ART , a group exhibition featuring works by eleven artists who led the counter culture of the sixties
and seventies on Maui. Artists in the exhibition include William Ballentine III, Richard Fields, Rick Griffin, Jim Loomis,
Tom Mitchell, Neal Norris, John Schofill, John Severson, Louise Severson, Todd Swan and Joana Varawa. Puka Puka will exhibit
55 works and has collaborated with the artists to publish 18 limited editions of photographs, prints, T shirts and a book.

On Friday, July 30 2010, from 6 - 9 PM: We invite you to celebrate the cosmic vibration of the Valley Isle, on the eve of the 40th
anniversary of Rainbow Bridge. This became Jimi Hendrix’s penultimate concert on the slopes of Haleakala, Maui before his death,
documented in the film of the same name by director, and former Andy Warhol assistant Chuck Wein.

Puka Puka will be celebrating by publishing Rainbow Bridge ( 1972 ), a psychotropic 8 screen print and limited edition,
by Maui wizard John Schofill. He designed the original sign at the entrance to the Rainbow Bridge Planetary Meditation Center
that became the headquarters for trips and consciousness.

Also, on opening night only, marine mammal activist and Universal Life Church minister, Captain James Cook Loomis
will install his latest marriage: Lifeboat, a sculpture joining the English Whitehall and the American dory - “if we can’t save
the Cosmos from going over the edge, at least we can save Puka Puka.”

Gallery Hours: Monday through Saturday, 11 AM – 6 PM, or by appointment.
