POSTER #108 PACIFIC VIBRATIONS
11"x14.5" quality laser print
John's final film was made as an environmental statement, coming at a time of unrest, radical actions and reactions. The Vietnam war was raging, Nixon was ruling, and business was having its way with the environment.
Severson was among the many seeking alternate lifestyle solutions, but wanted to go out the door with a plea for the oceans and our planet. The bigger the venue the better, it seemed, and Hollywood volunteered (with strings attached). Changes were made to make the film more commercial, with the final release gaining and losing.
It remains a blast of color and '60s images. The original poster was painted by Rick Griffin, and rejected by Hollywood as much too "scary." Forget the Hollywood poster; here's a reproduction of the original.
